Welcome, readers! I'm starting a Substack column as part of the new Iowa Writers’ Collaborative, which will share reporting and commentary to local news outlets.

I'll post links here to what I've been writing lately at Bleeding Heartland, as well as to good reporting published elsewhere. (For more comprehensive roundups of what’s new on my website, you can subscribe to the free email newsletter Evening Heartland, which goes out two or three times a week.)

I will also link to each episode of the KHOI Radio show "Capitol Week," where Dennis Hart and I discuss Iowa politics every Monday night. Here’s the July 18 edition, where we talked about Ann Selzer’s latest Iowa Poll for the Des Moines Register and some of the second-quarter fundraising numbers for Iowa’s U.S. House and Senate candidates.

You’ll be able to “ask me anything about Iowa politics” on occasional discussion threads too.
