Protects kids? Yet she totally ducks KCCI’s investigative report this week detailing how the Iowa Department of human Services has not lived up to what it agreed to do in court in the aftermath of the deaths of Natalie Finn and Sabrina Ray. The out of court settlement, which cost the state $10 million, was agreed to during Bird’s time as AG. But she had no time to talk to KCCI about it, as I wrote this week: https://open.substack.com/pub/davebusiek/p/starved-children-missed-warnings?r=3jrv0j&utm_medium=ios

Your column raised a question -when will the Willems campaign start talking about how state and federal policies are harmful for children. Recent examples include SNAP and Medicaid (most Iowans do not know the numbers of children who benefit from SNAP and Medicaid. Another example is the silence from Bird's office when the Trump administration cut funding for state programs which addressed domestic abuse.
