Excellent discussion. The only contested race here in Cedar Falls was the race for 3 of the seats on the school board, with 5 individuals vying for those. Unofficially, of the 14,825 votes cast in that race. the top 3 vote-getters were retired former public school educator Kim K. Cross, with 25.67%; current incumbent school board president and module engineering lead at John Deere, Lowell Stutzman, with 22.49%; and industrial engineer at John Deere, Grace Rogers, with 20.99%. Of the five people running, my personal opinion is that this group of three were collectively more progressive than any other group of three of the five candidates would have been.
Altoona Polk worker here. Great turnout and the feedback I have is one upset voter who was frustrated by the non-partisan listing of names. I had the Polk County Dem list but of course, we can’t offer that information. Is there a way to get the word out to use the links. I was happy to see my research paid off and my selections were accurate and confirmed by Polk Co Dems. Just an idea. Let’s do this!
In Davenport we got steamrolled by the Republican / developer / good old boys who outspent us 7:1. The same people that withheld public documents (the Spiegel demand letter) and gave away $1.6 million without even reading them were easily re-elected. There will be no attempt to negotiate with the victims of 324 Main Street as the city loses, appeals, loses and appeals all the way up to the Supreme Court. A Feast for Lawyers is about to begin in Davenport.
