Pulitzer-level reporting here. This is what the Journalistic Creed is all about. Deep appreciation to the reporter/writer (and to the undersung Matt Blake)
Thank you Laura for this in-depth analysis, including so many detailed and related threads - particularly those related to the Burns family newspaper, the eminent domain-limitation interests, and individual legislators’ personal goals, biases, and ambitions.
Also interesting is Reynolds’ (public, anyway) noncommittal.
I am glad she didn't veto the bill! It may have helped that Ohio, Idaho, and Montana just enacted anti-SLAPP bills earlier this year. So clearly many conservative Republicans are on board.
Please get proper nutrition, exercise, plenty of rest and hydration because without your incisive, intrepid investigative journalism, I’m convinced most of your ardent followers would simply pack up and leave, or spiral into informational content loss induced grief.
Your analysis and reporting on this bill’s journey to its final passage should become part of every civics curriculum. It lays bare the smoke- filled rooms. It. Is. Awesome.

Exceptional reporting about a bill unknown to me. Thank you!
Thank you for reading! There was some coverage of the anti-SLAPP bill but it didn't go into detail about why it passed this year.
As an educator, I was likely focused on the education bills, of which there were many.
So many! Every year.

Great article Laura! I think all of Iowa can be proud that this passed AND that Brad Zaun was defeated.
Defeating Brad Zaun: the gift that keeps on giving.
Thank you. Glad it finally passed. Bet it relieves you too
Absolutely. It's good news for every reporter.
Terrific analysis.

Ha ha! Fortunately I need less sleep than most people. And I do try to stay hydrated.
Thank you for diving into the struggles that preceded this law's passage.

Thank you, that's very kind.
