Speaking of Harris/Walz signs, a family member traveled to and from eastern Iowa to Storm Lake over the weekend. She noted a significant number of Harris/Walz signs in NW Iowa, Buena Vista county--indicating more democratic support than in the previous eight years her daughter has lived in the area. It's possible, too, that more NW Iowa Democrats feel comfortable displaying their candidate support.
Miller-Meeks built a huge house outside of Ottumwa city limits just up the hill from where I grew up. As far as I know, that property has not been sold.
She does live in Ottumwa and doesn't hide that. But if she also has a residence in Davenport (rented or purchased), it would be legal for her to vote from her Davenport address.
The question is whether she actually lives there. In 2022 she listed a friend's house as her address, and I was skeptical she could legally claim residence there. It was never fully investigated.
I just checked in TruthFinder and there is no record there of Davenport as a residence. I would think that even renting, that would be listed as a residence. Who knows. Better yet, we just need to dispose of her “services” to Iowa and vote for Christina Bohannan!!
I understand Republicans believe keeping Libertarians off the ballot helps them. But, how should we expect Libertarians to vote when they know it was Republicans who kept them off the ballot?
The following is included in the proposed amendment concerning who can vote in Iowa elections. "The required periods of residence shall not exceed six months in this state and sixty days in the county." Is this saying that voters must be residents of Iowa for up to 6 months before they can vote here? If they have left another state, they certainly can't vote back there can they? I have the same question about counties. If I move from Palo Alto to Kossuth, for example, 30 days prior to an election, where do I vote? Can someone shed some light on that for me please?
If you move to a new county, you can change your address right away. You will need to show proof of residence as well as an ID when you update your voter registration. So something like a lease agreement, a bank statement or utility bill or paycheck with your new address.
Iowa has same-day voter registration so you can change your address at the polling place on Election Day. But you will need to bring proof of address as well as ID. And it may take you longer because you won't be in the electronic book at your new precinct. So best to update your voter registration a few weeks before the election if possible.
Very interesting read. I did smile about Miller Meeks residency. To the best of me remembering Tom Harkin did not live in Iowa. He did purchase some property in S Ia where he would hold his annual picnic. As I recall he had a place in D.C. but his main house was in Bahamas where he stayed when not in D.C. and I believe he resided after leaving office.

I was wondering that as well--whether more people support the Democratic ticket, or more people feel comfortable doing so.
Regarding the epithets tossed at you during the the Rod Blum ethics episode: Wear them as badges of honor!
Oh absolutely, I do.

Tom Harkin has long owned the house in Cumming where he was born and grew up. He still stays there when he is in Iowa.
He didn't buy land for the Steak Fry--that event was usually held on the balloon field in Indianola.
He and Ruth Harkin have long owned a house in the Bahamas but you are not correct to claim that was his primary residence.
