Many Governors send their National Guard to address domestic crises of the moment, such as natural or environmental, or manmade. In the last 6 months, our Governor had the opportunity to send the Guard to help Marengo with its environmental crisis and clean up (the Governor dropped the ball and punted the problem to the federal govt). More recently, our Governor could have sent the Guard to help in rescue and recovery of the Davenport tragedy and to assist the under-staffed local emergency responders. In comparing priorities, Iowans can decide whether our Governor decided to “use” members of the Guard to score political points. I don’t think people in Marengo and surrounding communities, nor Davenport, care about political points; they would prefer that state resources be devoted to helping with local manmade tragedies.

Another arrogant move by our Governor. Playing to the base and setting up another fight with Auditor.

The last time she pulled this racist stunt, I spoke with two legislators from Black Hawk County asking why the minority party was not condemning Reynolds. I was told they were working on a press release. Of course, that press release was never released. If sending the Guard to the border is so reprehensible then why aren’t Democrats condemning it? Reynolds is an easy target. How about asking Democratic leaders in the legislature about their repeated silence.

I don’t know why I am so shocked to learn this. What an absolutely brazen act!

Shameful, and fundamentally Racist. Iowa is much better than this. I wonder if Will Hurd has a different idea of how Iowa could play a role on the border in a way that could benefit Iowa's economy and communities. Quoting Art Cullen, "Why can’t a Cuban immediately have protected status from the moment he or she shows up at a point of entry? You want a job at Tyson in Storm Lake? Here is how you get there. It should be that easy. Storm Lake needs the help. Cubans and Venezuelans (and so many other immigrants and refugees) need a steady job and a roof over their heads. We can do that here. It works. Let us. We are a nation of immigrants, Irish and Asian and Cuban and African. Why are we so cruel? Why are we so counter-productive and self-defeating?" Iowa's National Guard at the border could be assisting immigrants to come to Iowa and on their way to Freedom to Flourish.

Hard to believe Reynolds doesn't know full well that Iowans will end up bearing the cost of her political grandstanding.

She is typical of the Republican Governors ignorance of the state requirements to anticipate and to train for statewide needs catastrophe. She does not value the sacrifice of Iowa Guardsmen and -women.

Thank you, Laura for keeping an eye on the governor. You are such an asset to our state.

Once again, Laura, you have done a marvelous job dotting the i's and crossing the t's as to why the governor has abused her power and violated the trust of the people of Iowa and the laws of our nation. It is unconscionable that the very same governor who willingly accepted these ARP funds but then, with her insistence on COVID denialism, refused to use them to provide the people of Iowa with the COVID relief for which they were intended, is now using these funds in a manner that has absolutely nothing to do with the COVID pandemic but does have to do with furthering her own national political ambitions. These funds, intended to bring healing to the people of Iowa during a very dark and painful time, she has cached them away and now has dipped into them to use them to feed the fires of hate in our land.
