Thanks Laura, your column is so helpful to quickly understand what is happening in the Iowa legislature. It is perilous to be a woman of child-bearing age or a health provider to those women in Iowa. The Republican legislators seem determined to find ways to control, and take rights from women. It is appalling.

Once again, you’ve written about a complicated topic and reported the facts about how these Republican lawmakers continue to exert their power over women’s bodily autonomy — with little regard for the information provided by physicians or women affected by these new laws. Those legislators give women one more reason to become politically active during the 2024 elections, using the power of our individual votes to make our positions known.
Excellent insight into our right wing Legislature.
Hopefully, common sense will prevail and we’ll get a Dem majority one if these days so the Legislature can get back to governing vs their current Christian Nationalist Agenda.
