Ann Selzer is smarter than anyone of them. And pushing fake news, lying, and cheating? No one does it better than Republicans. Why all of them haven't been investigated is beyond me.
This is just more gloating and lying by a movement which is fully alive and more dangerous than ever. Thank you for calling it out.
To quote historian Timothy Snyder's recent piece in the New Yorker (November 8, 2024):
"A fascist just has to be a storyteller. Because words do not attach to meanings, the stories don’t need to be consistent. They don’t need to accord with external reality. A fascist storyteller just has to find a pulse and hold it."
And later: "A fascist marries conspiracy and necessity."
This only shows the disgusting low levels from which MAGA/Trump trash emanate. They are the liars. Brava to Ms Selzer for her years of unbiased service to Iowa. She has done something right if even Humpty Dumpty Trumpty mentions her! The fascist modus has always been keeping the ignorant of society ignorant of the truth.
There was widespread suppression and cancellations of likely Democratic votes in swing states, multiple reports by some working in certain precincts that tabulator machines were way slower and glitchier than usual, and reports that while voting machines aren't connected to the internet some tabulator machines ARE and they connected via StarLink.
Add to that how compromised the GOP leadership is by Russia, that Musk is himself a Russian agent (with a security clearance!), and we all should remember that tRump "has a little secret", that he openly said "I don't need your votes, we have enough".
Who is old enough to remember when Khrushchev said "we will take America without firing a shot?"
Trump is not going to live forever. How will the Republicans even express an opinion without Trump’s nasty rhetoric to lead the way? They parrot his lunatic rants and outbursts.
Trump is a lame duck from day one. His appeal does not transfer to other candidates. The sooner people understand that, the better off we will be. Trump motivated a huge number of individuals who previously did not vote. Most of these people have voted in their last election. The Rebel flags will become old, soiled and will disappear from the backs of pickup trucks. At some point, Republicans will figure that out. Kissing the boots of the dictator will give way to their own political aspirations. They can be a little slow, but it's coming. Unfortunately, the Iowa Democratic Party is not a thing either.
I don't think we have data to support that. The 2018 elections were a mixed bag in Iowa but a lot of Republicans have done well here, even when Trump was not on the ballot.
Laura- I would like to see the statistics on non-voters….nationwide. I suspect we still have about one-third of eligible citizens who chose not to vote, which amazes and troubles me.
We don't have data to support what--that new Trump voters won't continue to vote when Trump isn't on the ballot or that the Iowa Democratic Party is not a thing either. :). As to the former, we won't know until 2026. As to the latter, the evidence is pretty overwhelming. Other than Iowa, 2018 supports the contention.
The point I was making is Republicans nationally will feel less need to take orders from Trump. You see that already. Ask Matt Gaetz. Robert Kennedy might not get the chance to create a polio outbreak and we will see if Joni Ernst obeys Trump and votes to confirm the sexual predator for DOD--undo what she has worked to fix. Putin's pick for Director of Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, might not want to purchase her DC area house yet either. Putin might want to send Trump his second choice. Trump didn't have much political capital to start with and he is burning through it like a habitual gambler at a Vegas sport book. He is the lamest of lame ducks. That doesn't mean he still can't do a lot of damage, but vigorous opposition can limit it.
I think they want to drive readers away from news outlets like the Des Moines Register, and also are hoping that Register reporters will give Republicans more favorable coverage, in hope of not being called biased. It's gross and manipulative.
I agree, Laura. It is calculated and from a position of perceived dominance. The R party wins an election, but can't help but repeat more and more lies and innuendos. Grind down the "normal" media in any way it can. Sow more distrust.
Kaufmann's goal clearly is to destroy press credibility for his gains. He tries to bully The Gazette, too, with a bit of success at times. Really, asshat stuff. It is part of what journalists have to face these days at a red-fire level.
Thank you. It is part and parcel of an ongoing GOP strategy, including attacks on the media. Donald Trump's call for a criminal investigation into Ann Selzer undermines democratic processes-Kaufman's comments mistake historical facts on her polls and perpetuate distrust of mainstream media.. Selzer's polls have a long-standing reputation for accuracy, and equating polling errors or unfavorable results with criminal activity sets a dangerous precedent. Such rhetoric risks politicizing legitimate statistical practices and fueling unfounded conspiracy
Trump calls for investigation and prosecution of anyone he perceives as an enemy. The problem is there is no crime to go with the prosecution. While Trump's corrupt Supreme Court provides cover for him to turn the country into a dictatorship, prosecutors who bring bogus criminal prosecutions are subject to ethics regulation and could easily find themselves as Attorney General or a Deputy AG without a law license.

I hope you look into Mr. Spoonamore's Substack postings about why Harris "lost" - https://substack.com/@spoonamore

Unfortunately, there are other equally vile subhumans in that group to take his place. So sad!

You've got to wonder why they are so mean, as if insecure.

Maybe it's time to run on morals and decency?
Polling’s time is over.
And Jeff Kauffman is a moron.
